$1 Trillion bill builds momentum.
On Wednesday, the Senate’s bipartisan infrastructure working group doubled in size to a total number of 21 members. The group is seeking to find common ground on President Biden’s proposed infrastructure initiative. An earlier joint statement from the group expressed hopefulness in reaching an agreement saying, “Our group has worked in good faith and reached a bipartisan agreement on a realistic, compromise framework to modernize our nation’s infrastructure and energy technologies.”
The group consists of 11 Republican and 10 Democratic senators. This number is significant due to the fact that the Senate requires 60 members to break a filibuster, therefore allowing for any bipartisan-backed bill to progress through the chamber. The working group-backed proposal adds up to $1 trillion and would including funding for roads and highways, passenger and freight rail, and public transit.
